We have always been investigating users who forward the stream to the Firestick to push out to others for free.
So we are glad to see real action against those people.
The situation now is that the police are going after users of Firestick and to prevent illegal useage.
Part of the overall issue is the block rules within the UK on a Saturday afternoon. People are purchasing subscriptions for overseas and then re-streaming these on the Firestick and also on other devices. This allows may people to try and watch for free, though in many case the output is unreliable and jittery.
It`s time the SPFL and UEFA woke up to what`s happening and allow clubs to run their own open streams. All that is happening is that money is being lost by the clubs to pirates and VPN vendors.
The thing to note is that live streaming has very little impact on people attending live matches. People prefer to go to watch matches live, but there are people who live too far away or have to look after family members and are desperate to watch the game.
SFO has worked hard at tracking users re-streaming and also those sharign email addresses. SFO is also making it cost effective for clubs to provide a live streaming solution. Over 230 live streams for season 2025-2026, a massive increase since 2020-202 season where we ran 42 streams.
We did purchase a Firestick to monitor live matches to determine if some of our streams are present. Occassionaly we have seen them but are successfull in preventing access again.
